Jan 31 ‘The Departed’ might come back with a sequel 0
Filed in: Uncategorized

The phenomenal success of Martin Scorsese’s Jack Nicholson, Leonardo di Caprio- and Matt Damon-starrer The Departed has prompted Warner Bros to think of coming up with a sequel for the critically-acclaimed money-spinner.

The Golden Globe-winning film has picked up five nominations for this year’s Academy Awards, including those in the best film and best director categories.

According to media reports, William Monahan, who wrote the script for The Departed, has begun working on the sequel. Since the film bumped off all its characters except Mark Wahlberg’s Sergeant Dignam, he is likely to figure in the next film as well and the story might be written around him.

{nl}

Sources revealed that a new character played by Robert De Niro will be one of the protagonists in the sequel. Rumors also speculate that the producers of the film might consider making a prequel instead of a sequel as well. But director Martin Scorsese has so far shied away from making follow-up films and so, a final decision might come only after his nod. Given that this one is his greatest hit ever, having grossed a whopping US$219 million in worldwide ticket sales, Scorsese might make an exception here.

The odds of a successful sequel, however, are high, considering that Infernal Affairs, the Hong Kong crime thriller on which The Departed is based, had another successful moneymaker in its sequel Infernal Affairs II.

Meanwhile, The Departed will be released on DVD in February.

Jan 24 The unkindest cut for ‘Dreamgirls,’ Damon 0
Filed in: Uncategorized

{nl}

Eight nominations and not a nod for best picture? Was “Dreamgirls” robbed?

{nl}

Of course it was, and what else is new? Lest we forget, “The Color Purple” was nominated for 11 Oscars 20 years ago and director Steven Spielberg was not among them. Quoth Billy Crystal, speaking for Hollywood and the world, “Did this film direct itself?” “Dreamgirls” director Bill Condon may be muttering the same thing; he was shut out, too.

{nl}

This may be the year of Oscar’s coldest shoulder. Matt Damon (”The Departed” and “The Good Shepherd”) and Sacha Baron Cohen (”Borat”) were snubbed, as expected, even though they gave three of the most intriguing performances of the year. After all that aging make up and emoting, though, Brad Pitt came up with bupkis for “Babel” while his unknown co stars Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi were nominated. And Pedro Almod?var and “Volver” not making it into best foreign language film? It is to laugh.

{nl}

The oddest slight, though, is in the best actor category, where Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for his fine work in “Blood Diamond” and not for “The Departed,” the movie that finally won back those doubters who thought he was just a “Titanic” poster boy. As Borat might say: “Wha-a-a-t?!”

{nl}

Remember, the Oscars are not about fair. If they were, Alfred Hitchcock would have won 20 best directing Oscars. Instead, he got none.

Jan 19 DAMON: ‘NUDE MUD WRESTLING WAS DEMEANING’ 0
Filed in: Uncategorized

{nl}

THE BOURNE IDENTITY star MATT DAMON enjoyed working with Robert De Niro as director in new movie The Good Shepherd except when he was made to mud wrestle—naked. The drama tells the story of the birth of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) thorough the eyes of Damon’s character, EDWARD WILSON, and also stars ANGELINA JOLIE and ALEC BALDWIN. However, while Damon has lavished praise on De Niro for making him a “much better actor”, the 26-year-old detested his mud-fighting experience, which was part of his character’s initiation process to join an elite college fraternity. He says, “It was cold. It was winter and the big doors we needed to get the equipment in were open. It was demeaning enough to do the wrestling, but then to be all huddles, shivering.”

Jan 12 Matt Damon swears never to swear in front of his s 0
Filed in: Uncategorized

Washington, Jan 4(ANI): It seems actor Matt Damon takes care as he swears in front of his 10-year-old stepdaughter, for he had second thoughts thoughts about inviting her to a chat show where he was supposed to reveal his favourite curse word.

{nl}

Damon wasn’t comfortable with the idea of recalling seedy details of his film “The Departed” during the recent taping of in-depth TV talk show ‘Inside The Actors,’ as his little kid Alexia was also sitting in the audience.

{nl}

But fortunately, he was saved from the embarrasment as Alexia had dozed off by her mother Luciana Barroso’s side when Damon was asked to recount one disturbing scene he watched Jack Nicholson shoot, reports Contactmusic.he actor told host James Lipton, “I just wanna make sure my stepdaughter’s sleeping so she doesn’t hear this.”

{nl}

As the 10-year-old continued to snooze, Damon carefully revealed his favourite and least favourite word is “C**t.” He later revealed his favourite curse word was “F**k.” (ANI)

Jan 9 Now Damon assistant is in spotlight 0
Filed in: Uncategorized

As jobs go, being a movie star’s assistant doesn’t sound so bad. And it’s even better when the star’s a decent guy like Matt Damon. “He’s great,” says Trinette Faint , the Cambridge-bred actor’s personal assistant between ‘99 and ‘02. “Matt’s very easy going. I was lucky because I didn’t work for someone who was a tyrant or crazy.”

{nl}

The Emerson grad gallivanted all over Europe, and tended to Damon’s every need while he worked on “The Legend of Bagger Vance,” “The Bourne Identity,” “Ocean’s Eleven,” and “Gerry.” “I was basically in charge of every aspect of his life. I was the liaison between him and his publicist, his agent, and his business manager, and I’d make all of his travel arrangements, and make sure his family knew where he was all the time.” Best of all, the job got Faint deeply into photography. “I always had my camera with me, and I started shooting,” she says. Some of those shots are now on display in “The Greenroom,” an exhibition of Faint’s photos at the Holyoke Center Arcade in Harvard Square. As the title of the show suggest s , the 20 pictures include a few snapped when the cameras weren’t rolling, including one of Damon in his trailer in Paris, a nice, black-and-white shot of director Steven Soderbergh relaxing on set, and a portrait of singer Sally Taylor at home in Colorado. (Check out TrinetteFaint.com for examples.) Faint, who lives in Southie and works for Harvard Provost Steven Hyman , says the experience with Damon was invaluable. “Naturally, it was a creative environment. It’s not every day you get to sit five feet away from an Academy Award-winning director,” she says of Soderbergh . “I learned a lot.”

Jan 9 DAMON: ‘DE NIRO MADE ME A MUCH BETTER ACTOR’ 0
Filed in: Uncategorized

MATT DAMON has praised ROBERT DE NIRO’s directing abilities insisting he’s a much better actor after working with his idol on new movie THE GOOD SHEPHERD.
Damon admits the experience of taking guidance from De Niro made him realise how many actors are rewarded for overacting—because the CAPE FEAR star insists on keeping everything simple.

{nl}

Damon says, “That stuff gets rewarded a lot of the time. People stand up and cheer for so and so in this performance, and you’re just going, ‘What the f**k was that?’
 ”That’s why you have to just be thinking about the process… You can tell somebody how to win an award… (but) that can’t be why you’re doing it.
 ”It was a great experience with De Niro because this performance was like the opposite of all of those things. I’m a much better actor for having gone through that process with him.”
