Apr 14 Matt & Luciana Renew Vows with Island Party 0
Filed in: General News , Personal News

Matt Damon and his wife of nearly eight years, Luciana Barroso, renewed their vows Saturday on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Lucia, reports Us Weekly, with approximately 50 friends and family in attendance including best bud Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner.

Damon rented out the island’s entire Sugar Beach Resort at a reported six-figure price, according to Us, and exchanged vows at sunset under thatched roofs in a 15-minute ceremony. The groom wore a tan-colored suit and flip-flops, while the bride wore a cream-colored gown with a sequined belt, with the couple’s daughters in light-colored dresses to match their mother.

The approximately 50 guests, which included Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones (according to People.com), wore shades of cream and ivory and enjoyed a cocktail reception on the beach following the vow renewal.

Damon first married Barroso, a former bartender, in a private civil ceremony back in December 2005, and sources tell Us that the star and his bride have wanted to throw a larger celebration with family and friends for quite some time.

Jan 2 Matt Damon still upset about turning down ‘Avatar’ 0
Filed in: General News , Movie News

Matt Damon still curses his poor fortune after he had to turn down a leading role in the most successful film of all time, “Avatar.” The movie star was James Cameron’s first choice to play Jake Sully in the 2009 blockbuster, but he had to walk away from the role because he had other commitments.

Damon tells Playboy, “I particularly wanted to work with James Cameron, and still do. … He knew he was the star of that movie and that everyone was going to see it anyway. When he said, ‘Look, I’m offering it to you, but if you say no, the movie doesn’t need you,’ I remember thinking, ‘Oh God, not only do I have to say no because of scheduling, but he’s going to make a star out of some guy who’s going to start taking jobs from me later.’” Australian actor Sam Worthington landed the role of Sully.

The “Bourne Ultimatum” star says he also regrets having to turn down Josh Brolin’s role in “Milk.” ”I would have had the chance to do scenes with Sean Penn,” he said.

And the actor reveals he was also in the early running to land a leading role in “Brokeback Mountain,” opposite Joaquin Phoenix. He explains, “I had just done ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ and ‘All the Pretty Horses.’ I said … ‘I just did a gay movie and a cowboy movie. I can’t do a gay cowboy movie now.’

“The right actor got the part. Heath Ledger was magnificent.” And the role Phoenix was considered for went to Jake Gyllenhaal.

Jan 2 Damon: Obama’s joke ‘pretty funny’ 0
Filed in: General News

President Obama and Matt Damon can take criticism of each other — we think.

Back in 2011, Damon hit Obama for allegedly not following through on some campaign promises, thereby earning himself a spot in the president’s comedic remarks at that year’s White House Correspondents Association dinner.

Referring to one of Damon’s less successful projects, Obama joked: “Just the other day, Matt Damon — I love Matt Damon, love the guy — Matt Damon said he was disappointed in my performance. Well, Matt, I just saw “The Adjustment Bureau,” so … right back atcha, buddy.”

In a new profile in GQ magazine, Damon said he got dozens of e-mails from friends about Obama’s joke, and decided to check it out online.

“I have to say, it was pretty funny,” Damon said — though he doubted Obama wrote it himself.

“Whoever came up with it,” he said, “it was a terrific joke.”

Jan 2 Will Matt Damon Return To ‘Bourne’ With Nolan On Board? 0
Filed in: General News

For most of us, Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner had us hoping all the more for another Matt Damon turn as Jason Bourne. That’s not to say that Renner’s Bourne pseudo-sequel wasn’t alright, it just wasn’t the Bourne flick we deserved or needed.

Can Matt Damon be lured back to the Bourne series? Smart money is on “no,” but he’s enthusiastic if the story is there. Damon told ScreenRant:

I’d love to, I really want to do another Bourne movie but we just can’t figure out the story. The studio had made a deal with the estate to make another film and so they weren’t in breach of their contract, they had to get a Jason Bourne movie out for 2012.  And that’s when Tony came up with the idea of how to do one with Jeremy.

“I’ve talked to Paul about this, and it’s really just a question of how do you bring the character back? Is there a movie that’s as good as the other three that we did – and if we felt like there was, then we’d do it, but we just haven’t cracked it yet.”

Chances are, that story will never be “cracked.” SlashFilm reports that Damon even handed the Bourne reins over to the creative team behind the uber-successful Dark Knight Trilogy. Most specifically its screenwriter, Jonathan Nolan.

“I gave it to Jonah Nolan who did such a beautiful job with the Batman mythology – I mean along with Chris. I met with him and I said: ‘Would you take a look at this, because we really want to do it?’

“Jonah was great. He took like a month and really worked on it. He came back and said: ‘I can’t figure out how to do it.’ He told me: ‘You guys really ended it, you know,’ which we did. We had intended it to be a trilogy and he gets out at the end.

“Jason hasn’t been seen since 2004, so if we started writing a movie next year, we probably couldn’t get one out by 2014 and that would have been ten years since the CIA has completely lost track of him. So what has the character been up to all this time?”

So the short answer is this: They never should have made The Bourne Legacy and teased us with the possibility of another Matt Damon Bourne movie. Sure, he’d love to do it, but if there isn’t a story there and even Christopher Nolan’s brother can’t crack it, who can?

It might only be hypothetical, but do you think that Matt Damon and Christopher/Jonathan Nolan would make a good Bourne film?

Dec 21 An Affleck-Damon Senate Race? 0
Filed in: General News

Nearly 15 years after the release of the blockbuster flick “Good Will Hunting,” at least one Massachusetts-based politics editor yearns for the magic Ben Affleck and Matt Damon could bring to politics.

The two, whose ties to the Boston area go way back, collaborated on the screenplay for the Hub-based “Hunting,” which garnered them Oscars for their screenwriting.

Jon Keller, politics editor for Boston’s local CBS affiliate, WBZ-TV, was recently pontificating on who will run for the seat of Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., assuming he is nominated to be secretary of State.

For  special elections, Massachusetts law is a little more relaxed than its normal election requirements. It “requires only that you be over 30, a registered voter and be able to turn in 10,000 certified signatures,” Keller said. “You don’t even have to live in Massachusetts now, as long as you move here before Election Day.”

Although he says he’s not a fan of mixing showbiz and politics, which just means he doesn’t live in D.C., he encourages Boston not to be deemed “un-hip.”

So, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Keller proposed last week that Damon run for the U.S. Senate. This week, however, he removed tongue from cheek in time to report that Affleck’s name has actually been bandied about by several politically savvy Massachusetts Democrats.

Affleck is active in Massachusetts politics, as well as national politics, after all.

But does Keller think Affleck would make a good senator?

“Well, just look at how he got those hostages out of Iran,” he told HOH, referring to Affleck’s latest movie, the get-Americans-out-of-Iran thriller “Argo.”

Fair point, Mr. Keller. Fair point.

As if to make Keller’s point, Affleck was on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, testifying on the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. An added bonus is that Jennifer Garner, Affleck’s wife and an actor in her own right, likes to come to D.C. as well, so the couple would certainly glam up the place.

Dec 5 Matt Damon voted for Obama, despite those first-term criticisms 0
Filed in: General News

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – Matt Damon has been one of Barack Obama’s harshest critics in Hollywood, but he told TheWrap that despite his rough words for the president, he is pleased he was re-elected.

“I voted for him,” Damon said. “Absolutely, I voted for him.”

Damon, who was in New York City this week to promote his environmental drama “Promised Land,” made headlines last year when he criticized the president in interviews with Elle magazine and Piers Morgan. At the time, he faulted Obama for not pushing for more Wall Street reforms in the wake of the financial crisis.

“You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better,” Damon told an Elle interviewer in December 2011.

The actor acknowledged to TheWrap that after his frank talk, he had played a less active role in Obama’s re-election campaign. “They didn’t ask me to do any fundraisers this time,” he said, laughing.

And, he said, he has higher hopes for the coming four years, now that the president is not worried about securing re-election.

“I’m a perennial optimist,” Damon told TheWrap. “So I’m very hopeful that this second term is going be a great one and that we’re going to see who he is and he’s going to make a lot of people’s lives a lot better. That’s my true hope.”

Damon’s latest film casts a critical eye over “fracking,” a controversial drilling process used to extract natural gas that some environmentalists fear could contaminate ground water and impact air quality. The actor not only appears in the film; he co-wrote the Oscar hopeful with co-star John Krasinski. “Promised Land” opens in limited release on December 28.

Krasinski told TheWrap that he and Damon made “Promised Land” to examine the failures of the democratic process. When it came to politics, he was more critical of Washington gridlock than any one politician.

“We have a group of people in the House and the Senate who are actually willing to throw away any progress for one side or the other just to win a point for an imaginary team that none of us really belongs to,” Krasinski said. “So that’s the upsetting thing.”

One politician who both men support is Elizabeth Warren. The newly elected Democratic senator from Massachusetts has been a fierce critic of the elaborate financial concoctions that helped lead to the recession. Krasinski, Damon and Ben Affleck hosted a fundraiser for Warren at J.J. Abrams Bad Robot production studios earlier this year.

Damon said he has no regrets about voicing his political views and doubts that it prevents audiences from judging his work on its own merits.

“I don’t worry about it,” Damon told TheWrap. “I mean people know I’m a liberal guy, and I’m fine with that. I think people go to the movies that they want to go to. A Jason Bourne movie is always going to have a bigger audience than a smaller movie and there are people of every stripe who go to those.”

Dec 5 Personal Rant: Mahn? or Joat? 0
Filed in: General News

I freakin love the idea that Matt Damon has become such good friends with John Krasinski (in my imaginary world, they are a celebrity couple thus the debate above). Both are so awesome, hilarious, and oh so talented. I just see Matt raving about John everywhere these days and its the cutest thing ever. It peaked with John Krasinski saying on David Letterman (while introducing a clip of Promised Land and their potential conflict over a woman in the movie), “This is a clip of something NOT out of the ordinary  me stealing a woman away from Matt Damon”

(or something to that effect…it was just amazing).

Nov 17 Damon says ‘No Acting for Kids’ 0
Filed in: General News , Personal News

Matt Damon hopes his daughters never follow him into acting because Hollywood is so unfair to women.

The 41-year-old actor – who raises Alexia, 14, Isabella, six, Gia, four and 23-month-old Stella with wife Luciana -is horrified by how Hollywood treats women over and would never want that for his own kids.

Speaking in a Hollywood Reporter roundtable discussion with actors including Richard Gere, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, he said: ‘I would try to steer my daughters away from acting. Women are in a different business than we are. It is just brutal for women. For men, the roles get really good at 40 and beyond. And that’s when you really start doing your best work.’

Matt also thinks fame has changed how other people treat him.

He explained: ‘When we started writing ‘Good Will Hunting’, I was 22 and Ben was 20 and it came out when I was 27 and he was 25. I always had this theory that your kind of a retard emotionally the moment you become famous. It’s not that you change, the world changes this relationship to you. So your entire reality shifts and that’s a jarring experience and hard to prepare for.’
