Feb 23 Matt Damon: I relax with karaoke and know all the songs to The Little Mermaid 0
Filed in: General News

Matt Damon has a surprise love for karaoke.

The Elysium actor admits that belting out tunes after a hard day’s work helps him to unwind, especially if he can get other people involved.

‘[I relax by] going to karaoke on a double date with my wife Luciana,’ says Matt, 43.

‘One time we bumped into Jeremy Renner and dragged him with us. And Renner can sing.

‘Although we didn’t care if he could sing, we just wanted to hang out with him.’

Matt – who is a father to Isabella, 7, Gia, 5, and Stella, 3, as well as being a stepdad to Luciana’s daughter Alexia, 14 – has learned some pretty girly tunes along the way.

‘I know all the songs to The Little Mermaid,’ the doting dad tells Notebook.

‘Only because I have four daughters, you understand.’

Jan 16 George Clooney Pulls Pants Prank on Matt Damon 0
Filed in: General News

One thing we love about George Clooney and Matt Damon is their history of playing pranks on each other. During an episode of The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Damon revealed an elaborate prank Clooney played on him while filming The Monuments Men together. Damon became concerned when his pants became tighter despite working out, but as it turns out, he wasn’t piling on the pounds–Clooney was having his pants taken in.

Matt Damon talked about a few topics with Leno last night, including his first Tonight Show appearance where he promoted Good Will Hunting and his The Monuments Men co-star George Clooney. Not surprisingly, some of his chatter about Clooney had to do with pranks. Clooney is known for playing pranks on his Hollywood cohorts, and he managed to pull off one of his best pranks ever on Damon.

During filming for The Monuments Men, which opens February 7, Damon noticed that his pants were getting snug, which was puzzling since he was working out with Clooney. While working out would give most people a little more breathing room in their pants, Damon’s pants just kept getting tighter, and he had no idea why. “I just thought, ‘This can’t be,’” Damon told Leno.

The truth finally came out, but not until after Damon and Clooney finished filming the movie. “I read finally, which answered a lot for me, that [Clooney] had been taking my pants in by about an eighth or a sixteenth of an inch every couple of days,” Damon said. ”I never said anything to him which, of course, he probably loved even more.”

Interestingly enough, even though Damon was never able to put two and two together, he had suspected Clooney of a similar prank a couple years before.

“A couple of years ago I hadn’t been working out and I’d got kind of fat,” Damon said. “I had to go to a function and when I tried on my suit, it was too tight. My immediate thought was that my buddy George Clooney had hired someone to get into my closet and cut down my clothes. I seriously thought that until my wife said, very gently, said ‘Do you think it might be that you’ve put on some weight?’”

Jan 2 Matt Damon still upset about turning down ‘Avatar’ 0
Filed in: General News , Movie News

Matt Damon still curses his poor fortune after he had to turn down a leading role in the most successful film of all time, “Avatar.” The movie star was James Cameron’s first choice to play Jake Sully in the 2009 blockbuster, but he had to walk away from the role because he had other commitments.

Damon tells Playboy, “I particularly wanted to work with James Cameron, and still do. … He knew he was the star of that movie and that everyone was going to see it anyway. When he said, ‘Look, I’m offering it to you, but if you say no, the movie doesn’t need you,’ I remember thinking, ‘Oh God, not only do I have to say no because of scheduling, but he’s going to make a star out of some guy who’s going to start taking jobs from me later.’” Australian actor Sam Worthington landed the role of Sully.

The “Bourne Ultimatum” star says he also regrets having to turn down Josh Brolin’s role in “Milk.” ”I would have had the chance to do scenes with Sean Penn,” he said.

And the actor reveals he was also in the early running to land a leading role in “Brokeback Mountain,” opposite Joaquin Phoenix. He explains, “I had just done ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ and ‘All the Pretty Horses.’ I said … ‘I just did a gay movie and a cowboy movie. I can’t do a gay cowboy movie now.’

“The right actor got the part. Heath Ledger was magnificent.” And the role Phoenix was considered for went to Jake Gyllenhaal.

Jan 2 Damon: Obama’s joke ‘pretty funny’ 0
Filed in: General News

President Obama and Matt Damon can take criticism of each other — we think.

Back in 2011, Damon hit Obama for allegedly not following through on some campaign promises, thereby earning himself a spot in the president’s comedic remarks at that year’s White House Correspondents Association dinner.

Referring to one of Damon’s less successful projects, Obama joked: “Just the other day, Matt Damon — I love Matt Damon, love the guy — Matt Damon said he was disappointed in my performance. Well, Matt, I just saw “The Adjustment Bureau,” so … right back atcha, buddy.”

In a new profile in GQ magazine, Damon said he got dozens of e-mails from friends about Obama’s joke, and decided to check it out online.

“I have to say, it was pretty funny,” Damon said — though he doubted Obama wrote it himself.

“Whoever came up with it,” he said, “it was a terrific joke.”

Jan 2 Will Matt Damon Return To ‘Bourne’ With Nolan On Board? 0
Filed in: General News

For most of us, Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner had us hoping all the more for another Matt Damon turn as Jason Bourne. That’s not to say that Renner’s Bourne pseudo-sequel wasn’t alright, it just wasn’t the Bourne flick we deserved or needed.

Can Matt Damon be lured back to the Bourne series? Smart money is on “no,” but he’s enthusiastic if the story is there. Damon told ScreenRant:

I’d love to, I really want to do another Bourne movie but we just can’t figure out the story. The studio had made a deal with the estate to make another film and so they weren’t in breach of their contract, they had to get a Jason Bourne movie out for 2012.  And that’s when Tony came up with the idea of how to do one with Jeremy.

“I’ve talked to Paul about this, and it’s really just a question of how do you bring the character back? Is there a movie that’s as good as the other three that we did – and if we felt like there was, then we’d do it, but we just haven’t cracked it yet.”

Chances are, that story will never be “cracked.” SlashFilm reports that Damon even handed the Bourne reins over to the creative team behind the uber-successful Dark Knight Trilogy. Most specifically its screenwriter, Jonathan Nolan.

“I gave it to Jonah Nolan who did such a beautiful job with the Batman mythology – I mean along with Chris. I met with him and I said: ‘Would you take a look at this, because we really want to do it?’

“Jonah was great. He took like a month and really worked on it. He came back and said: ‘I can’t figure out how to do it.’ He told me: ‘You guys really ended it, you know,’ which we did. We had intended it to be a trilogy and he gets out at the end.

“Jason hasn’t been seen since 2004, so if we started writing a movie next year, we probably couldn’t get one out by 2014 and that would have been ten years since the CIA has completely lost track of him. So what has the character been up to all this time?”

So the short answer is this: They never should have made The Bourne Legacy and teased us with the possibility of another Matt Damon Bourne movie. Sure, he’d love to do it, but if there isn’t a story there and even Christopher Nolan’s brother can’t crack it, who can?

It might only be hypothetical, but do you think that Matt Damon and Christopher/Jonathan Nolan would make a good Bourne film?
